Life: The Experiment

Posted on

Papa was a scientist. He understood that it usually took many attempts before getting what he was trying to discover or achieve. At the same time, when it comes to life I keep sensing this expectation that whatever I am trying should work out the first or second time, and if it doesn’t, feel deflated.

The development of adult mental complexity is about being able to increasingly divide between object and self. To be able to separate between one’s self and what one is doing or one is involved in. By looking at my efforts to achieve something as an experiment that requires multiple iterations before succeeding, it is easier to hold on to this perspective.

” mechavin”(for a lack of better word, i would love to know the english word for this but I don’t )to you .I personally had a story in which my rebbe gave me an amazing mashul that brought out this point ,and helped me tremendously (unfortunately I forgot it). This idea can and should be practically applied in “how not to always judge ourselves by our actions”.
    Thank you & great day
